I recommend the Bazooka Pop... yum!
Before we parted ways with Christos and Yodis, our tour guides of the South, they told us about a Catholic Church (Church of the Holy Cross) which sits half in the South, half in the UN buffer zone. My “roommate” Nadia and I decided that we would like to attend and had great plans to make it to the 9:30am mass today. Apparently, two alarms were not enough to wake either of us and I began to seriously question the probability of us ever making it to class on time once we arrive at EMU.
We did eventually make it to the church after a hot walk in to town and one of the best popsicles I’ve ever eaten. The stained glass behind the altar was beautiful and we were able to sit for a minute and take it all in before we lit some candles and returned to Ledra Street. We chose a new route this time and found ourselves in what seemed like a completely different city.
A couple of hours of shopping around was enough to wear us out and we headed back for a mid-afternoon movie with the boys (smart play on packing the laptop and DVD’s!). Eventually as the day cooled, we headed back in to town for a late dinner and found ourselves at the Cypriot version of Denny’s as most places had closed early for a Sunday night and one restaurant did not appear interested in our business... anti-American sentiment? Or just a wait staff looking to go home? We weren't sure. I had a spinach pie that didn’t come close to touching Joan Hopkins’ but was satisfying after a long day of seeing the sights.
